About Chitin

Chitin Chitosan

Chitin is the second most important natural polymer in the world. The main sources exploited are two marine crustaceans, shrimp and crabs. Our objective is to appraise the state of the art concerning this polysaccharide: its morphology in the native solid state, methods of identification and characterization and chemical modifications, as well as the difficulties in utilizing and processing it for selected applications. We note the important work of P. Austin, S. Tokura and S. Hirano, who have contributed to the applications development of chitin, especially in fiber form. Then, we discuss chitosan, the most important derivative of chitin, outlining the best techniques to characterize it and the main problems encountered in its utilization. Chitosan, which is soluble in acidic aqueous media, is used in many applications (food, cosmetics, biomedical and pharmaceutical applications). We briefly describe the chemical modifications of chitosanan area in which a variety of syntheses have been proposed tentatively, but are not yet developed on an industrial scale..

Chitin is the second most important natural polymer in the world. Chitosan has a number of commercial and possible biomedical uses. It can be used in agriculture as a seed treatment and biopesticide, helping plants to fight off fungal infections

Chitosan is a linear polysaccharide composed of randomly distributed -(1-4)-linked D-glucosamine (deacetylated unit) and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine (acetylated unit). It is made by treating shrimp and other crustacean shells with the alkali sodium hydroxide.Chitosan has a number of commercial and possible biomedical uses. It can be used in agriculture as a seed treatment and biopesticide, helping plants to fight off fungal infections. In winemaking it can be used as a fining agent, also helping to prevent spoilage.

In industry, it can be used in a self-healing polyurethane paint coating. In medicine, it may be useful in bandages to reduce bleeding and as an antibacterial agent; it can also be used to help deliver drugs through the skin.More controversially, chitosan has been asserted to have use in limiting fat absorption, which would make it useful for dieting, but there is evidence against this.Other uses of chitosan that have been researched include use as a soluble dietary fiber..

Exceptional Purity and Versatility

Our chitin stands out for its high purity (minimum 85%) and consistent quality, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. Whether used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, agricultural, or biomedical sectors, its physical integrity and chemical composition support diverse industry needs.

Optimized for Prolonged Stability

Packaged in HDPE bags with an inner liner, our chitin is protected from moisture to ensure a shelf life of up to one year. Store it in a cool, dry location to preserve its quality and maximize its usability over time.

FAQ's of Chitin:

Q: How should chitin be stored to maintain its quality?

A: Chitin should be stored in a cool and dry environment, protected from moisture and direct sunlight. The supplied HDPE bags with an inner liner provide added protection, helping preserve quality for up to one year.

Q: What are the primary applications of chitin?

A: Chitin is widely used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and biomedicine. Its biocompatibility and unique natural properties make it valuable for formulating skincare products, wound dressings, fertilizers, and as a functional ingredient in various industry applications.

Q: What is the process of manufacturing chitin from fish sources?

A: Chitin is derived from fish by removing proteins, minerals, and impurities, typically through sequential chemical treatments. The purification process ensures high purity (minimum 85%) and low ash content, resulting in the desired flakes or powder form.

Q: When does chitin expire or lose its effectiveness?

A: Properly stored chitin remains effective for up to one year from the date of packaging. After this period, its properties may begin to deteriorate, so it is advisable to use it within the specified shelf life.

Q: What are the benefits of using chitin in product formulations?

A: Chitin offers benefits such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, and non-toxicity. It can enhance the moisturizing properties in cosmetics, support plant health in agriculture, and serve as a natural material in biomedicine, making formulations safer and more environmentally friendly.

Q: How can chitin be customized for different industrial requirements?

A: Our chitin is available in customizable flake and granular forms, with adjustable length and width to suit specific application needs in various industries. This flexibility enables precise integration into manufacturing processes.
